Book of Nomo - Chapter 11 - Nomo and the Hall of Fame
TOKYO — There are 340 members in the Hall of Fame as of the beginning of 2022, including 239 MLB players, 39 Negro League players, managers, team and league executives. Of that number 109 or 41% were elected by the members of the Baseball Writers of America. The rest, 59 percent were elected by the Hall of Fame Committee on Baseball Veterans (154) and the Committee on Negro Leagues (27).
The standard for admission by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America is very high, and this is why only less than half have made it into the Hall via their vote. A player who is not voted in by the BBWAA within a period of 20 years after his retirement, becomes eligible for selection by the Veterans Committee, who holds elections for players to be inducted every other year, in odd-numbered years. (Even numbered years see elections of managers, umpires and other individuals involved in baseball).
