Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson combined blazing speed with considerable power
CALIFORNIA — Rickey Henderson has died. Widely regarded as the greatest base stealer and the greatest leadoff hitter in MLB history, he passed away on December 20 at the age of 65. He holds the MLB single-season stolen base record with 130 and is the only player in MLB history to steal over 100 bases in three different seasons.
Henderson was named the American League MVP in 1990 and as the Oakland Athletics’ leadoff hitter was instrumental in their World Series champion season in 1989 and also the Toronto Blue Jays’ championship in 1993.
