TOKYO — Donald Trump has been re-elected as the next president of the United States. Trump was president of the U.S. from 2016-2020, lost by a narrow margin to Joe Biden in a hotly contested election in 2020, and now has reclaimed the throne.
Republicans, who also captured the Senate and the House of Representatives giving them full control of the government, were ecstatic while the Democrats fell into the depths of depression. As Steven Givens, the Tokyo-based lawyer from Harvard put it in a piece for the magazine Seiron, “The major Democrat-supporting networks CNN, MSNBC, CBS and ABC appeared to be in a state of shock.”
For businessman Trump, the only man in American history elected president with no prior experience in government, it was a remarkable feat — or as CNN put it, “the greatest political comeback since Napoleon.”
