TOKYO — A reporter from The Athletic website (owned by the New York Times) recently asked me to describe the media coverage of Shohei Ohtani in Japan. I believe I used the word “excessive” excessively. It’s non-stop.
I cited the front page coverage in the Japanese sports dailies — a phenomenon that doesn’t exist in the USA. Every other day it seems Ohtani’s name is in the headlines.
