TOKYO — Ichiro Suzuki will be inducted into the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame this coming Aug. 27, a Saturday, in a pre-game ceremony prior to a Mariners-Cleveland Guardians contest. It will be part of a weekend-long celebration of Ichiro’s incredible baseball career and will be a precursor to Ichiro’s inevitable induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 2025 when he becomes eligible. Ichiro’s selection was unanimous, as it will no doubt be at Cooperstown.
In the process, Ichiro will become the first Japanese player to enter a Major League Baseball team's Hall of Fame — an honor not yet given to Hideo Nomo or Hideki Matsui. He will become the only one of 64 players from Japan who have played in MLB to be so inducted.
