TOKYO — Shohei Ohtani’s performance in June was one of the best ever. He hit .394 with 15 homers and 28 RBI’s, including a 493-foot blast that was the longest home run in baseball this season. He was so locked in that he seemed could hit a home run with his eyes closed. He rightly won MVP of the month for the third time.
Ohtani’s performance ranked up there with other MVP-of-the-month level performances.
The 17 homers Babe Ruth hit in September 1927 on his way to the first ever 60 homer season for an MLB player. The 17 homers Barry Bonds smashed in May 2001 on his way to blasting 73 home runs, a new all-time single season home run record.
